Fear
So, you just got a new pair of sugar gliders, what do you do to help them love and trust you? Some will tell you to leave them alone for a few days and let them get used to their new environment. This is advice I don’t listen to. To me I am the biggest part of their environment. I personally believe that leaving them alone can hinder and slow down the bonding process. It gives them time away from you and they can learn to fear you and may also make them want you to always leave them alone. I carry mine in a bonding pouch with me all day for the first few days and put them back in their cage at night
I will have also placed a scent ball, that I have been carrying and sleeping with for a few days, in their sleeping pouch. This is a great way for them to get used to your scent. My main concern for the first week is to build trust. I want the glider to feel like I am a safe place to be. When they start crabbing, just place your hand over them and add a little pressure until they stop this will make them feel secure and safe.
